The Literary Guild - More interested in customer bilking than customer service
I noticed a mysterious $30 or so charge on my cc. My membership (formerly BOMC, since about 1990) was apparently transferred to this company (Bookspan) and I am told I agreed to their new member credit program (something I would NEVER knowingly agree to because it's horrible).
I recall no such thing and have no email reflecting that, but, full disclosure, maybe I blindly clicked/agreed. Apparently I also let the member dispute time lapse (because I didn't notice the charge until my cc statement arrived). The company fought the charge with detailed documentation after I canceled my membership (I canceled not because of the charge, but the way it occurred - bush league). Horrible way of doing business, sliding a new "auto charge" policy into a member agreement (a radical departure from previous terms), but I do blame myself for not reading the fine print (though I don't recall even agreeing to anything).
I guess I'm used to BOMC's way of doing business, folks that never tried to pull a fast one in 20+ years, and when I made a mistake, they worked with me. Some of the blame is on me, no doubt, but still...pitiful way of doing business.
Reason of review: Poor customer service.
Monetary Loss: $30.
The Literary Guild Cons: Way of doing bussines.
Location: Alexandria, Pennsylvania
